Our story

Small on purpose.

We didn't grow up farming. It started with The Biggest Little Farm, half an acre, a few chickens, and a lot of mistakes. Wendell Berry and Joel Salatin did the rest.

Having kids changed things. We want them to grow up doing real chores and learning to look after animals and land. We believe God made us to tend His creation, not use it up.

So we moved to 40 acres in Danville. Why Five Stone? David picked five smooth stones out of a creek to face Goliath. A family farm up against industrial food feels a little like that. We like our odds.

How our hens live

Hens living the way God made them to.

  1. Out on grass, all day.

The flock ranges over open pasture, scratching through grass and clover for bugs and seed.

  2. Fresh pasture every few days.

Their mobile coop rolls to new ground every few days, so the hens are never on bare dirt and the land gets time to recover.

  3. Gathered daily.

Eggs come in from the nest boxes every day, get washed and chilled, and go into cartons dated by the week they were laid.
